SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate, or Sodium Polyoxyethylene Lauryl Sulphate) is an anionic surfactant produced by ethoxylation of lauryl alcohol followed by sulphation and neutralisation. It is one of the most important surfactant raw materials in personal care and household cleaning formulations globally. The 70% active paste grade is the standard trade form — offering a concentrated, easy-to-handle product that is diluted with water at the formulation stage. SLES produces a rich, stable foam at low usage levels (5–15% actives in finished products), is highly biodegradable, and is mild on skin compared to SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate — non-ethoxylated).
