Hydrogen Peroxide 50%

Hydrogen peroxide 50% (H2O2, CAS 7722-84-1) is a clear, colourless oxidiser supplied at 50% w/w (±0.5%), specific gravity 1.196 at 20 °C, stabilised to pH 1–4 with a non-volatile residue below 60 ppm. Global Chemicals LLC stocks it in Ghala, Muscat, in 60 kg HDPE drums and 1,000 kg IBCs for industrial, chemical and water-treatment customers across Oman, with 35% food and technical grades and 3% and 6% dilutions for sanitiser and cosmetic work.

Why 50% rather than 35%: one kilogram of the 50% grade carries the active oxygen of 1.43 kg of 35%, so large users store, transport and dose less liquid for the same duty. Diluting with demineralised water gives any working strength; tap water with iron or copper will decompose the peroxide. It breaks down to water and oxygen only, which is why it replaces chlorine-based bleaches wherever halogenated by-products are a concern.

Industrial uses in Oman: high-brightness bleaching of pulp, paper, textiles and nonwovens in alkaline baths; chemical synthesis (epoxidation, hydroxylation and other oxidations); COD and BOD reduction in effluent, including Fenton treatment with ferrous iron for refractory organics; sulphide and mercaptan oxidation in oil and gas produced water; in-situ chemical oxidation of contaminated soil and groundwater; electronics cleaning; and oxidative leaching in mineral processing. Dosing is by the oxygen demand of the stream, confirmed with a residual-peroxide test.

Handling: hydrogen peroxide 50% is a Class 5.1 oxidiser (UN 2014). Keep it in its original vented containers, in the shade, away from metals, organics, acids and reducing agents; contamination, heat or metal ions trigger decomposition that releases oxygen and heat, so never return unused product to the drum and never store it in a sealed, unvented vessel. Transfer with passivated stainless steel, aluminium or HDPE equipment only, and wear chemical goggles, gloves and a face shield.
