In soap and personal care, glycerine functions as a humectant (drawing moisture to the skin), plasticiser in soap bars (preventing cracking), and transparent soap solvent. In food and beverage, food-grade glycerine (E422) is used as a sweetener/humectant in confectionery, as a preservative in baked goods, and as a solvent for flavours and colours.
