Trisodium Phosphate

Trisodium phosphate (TSP, Na3PO4, CAS 7601-54-9) is the heavy-duty alkaline cleaner that combines high alkalinity (pH 12.0–12.5 in 1% solution), phosphate sequestration of hardness and strong grease emulsification in one powder. Global Chemicals LLC supplies it from stock in Muscat in 25 kg PP bags, as anhydrous granules at 98% minimum (18.5% phosphorus) or as the dodecahydrate, with chloride below 0.1% and solubility of 12 g per 100 mL at 20 °C, to industrial, institutional, construction and formulation customers across Oman.

What it does. A 1–2% solution is the standard wash before painting: it strips grease, chalk, soot and old polish from walls, metal and concrete and dulls the gloss of old paint so the new coat bonds. Stronger solutions of 2–5% degrease engine parts, workshop floors and concrete, clean ovens, grills, hoods and fryers in institutional kitchens, and remove carbonised deposits that detergents leave behind. Boiler and heat-exchanger boil-outs use it with caustic to saponify oil and loosen mill scale before commissioning; fire-restoration contractors use it for smoke and soot residue; a TSP and hypochlorite solution kills and lifts mildew from masonry and tile; and metal finishers use it as the alkaline soak before plating or coating. Formulators build it into powder degreasers, floor strippers and industrial detergents. Always rinse surfaces with clean water, because dried TSP leaves a white film and affects paint adhesion.

Handling and storage: TSP solutions cause alkaline burns and the dust irritates the eyes and airways, so wear gloves, goggles and a dust mask, add the powder to water rather than water to powder, and never mix it with acids. Keep bags closed and dry; the powder absorbs moisture and cakes. Every lot carries a certificate of analysis giving assay, phosphorus and chloride, a technical data sheet and a GHS safety data sheet.
