Dense grade soda ash has a higher bulk density (approximately 1,000–1,100 kg/m³) compared to light grade, making it more suitable for applications where volume efficiency, reduced dusting, and free-flowing properties in powder formulations are important. In detergent powder manufacturing, soda ash dense acts as an alkaline builder — raising the wash liquor pH, enhancing surfactant performance, softening hard water by precipitating calcium and magnesium carbonate, and saponifying greasy soils. It is the standard alkaline base in powder laundry detergents, dishwasher powder, and scouring powders.
