Soda Ash Dense (Detergent Grade)

Soda ash dense is anhydrous sodium carbonate (Na2CO3, CAS 497-19-8) in its high-bulk-density form: 1,000–1,100 kg/m³, coarse free-flowing granules of 0.2–1.0 mm, 99.2% minimum Na2CO3, with sodium chloride below 0.15%, sodium sulphate below 0.04%, iron below 0.003% and loss on ignition below 0.5%. It is the same chemical as the light grade on our oilfield page, made by recrystallising the light ash to a denser crystal, and the extra density is why it flows, meters and blends better, dusts less and packs more into a silo or a bag. Global Chemicals LLC supplies it from stock in Muscat in 25 kg PP bags and 1,000 kg big bags.

Detergent powder is the main use. Dense ash is the alkaline builder that raises the wash liquor to about pH 11, improves surfactant performance, softens hard water by precipitating calcium as carbonate, and saponifies greasy soil. Its granule size matches the other powder ingredients, so it does not segregate in the mix or the pack, which is why formulators specify dense rather than light ash for laundry powders, dishwasher powders and scouring powders. Glass works, a major GCC consumer, use it as the flux that lowers the melting point of silica, and the dense grade feeds furnace batch systems cleanly.

Other duties: pH correction and soda-lime softening in water treatment, where sodium carbonate precipitates non-carbonate hardness that lime alone cannot remove; scouring and mercerising baths in textile processing; neutralising acidic effluent; cooking liquor make-up in kraft pulping; and a sodium carbonate source for chemical synthesis. Soda ash absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide slowly from the air, so keep bags closed and dry. It is mildly alkaline: wear gloves and goggles, and avoid dust. A certificate of analysis and safety data sheet come with every lot. Delivery is same day within Muscat, next day to Sohar, Salalah and Duqm, and by road to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain with a certificate of origin.
