Kerosene (Industrial Grade)

Industrial kerosene (CAS 8008-20-6) is a clear to pale-yellow middle distillate with a boiling range of 150–300 °C, minimum flash point 38 °C, specific gravity 0.78–0.82, viscosity 1.2–2.0 cSt at 40 °C and sulphur below 0.25%, supplied by Global Chemicals LLC in 200 L drums, 1,000 L IBCs and bulk from stock in Muscat and Rusayl Industrial Area. It is the general-purpose solvent and light fuel of workshops, construction sites and factories; it is not aviation fuel, which is a separately certified product.

As a solvent, kerosene dissolves oil, grease, tar and wax, evaporates slowly enough to soak into deposits, and leaves a thin protective oil film on steel, which is why mechanics and maintenance crews use it to clean engine parts, gears, chains and tools, and why it is the base of parts-washer fluids and rust-loosening mixtures. It is the carrier for insecticides, pesticides and wood preservatives that must spread on surfaces, the diluent in concrete curing compounds and release agents, a component of cutting and honing oils for aluminium and stainless steel, and a cutback solvent for bitumen in road and roofing work. As a fuel it fires space heaters, lamps, burners, blowtorches and some furnaces and dryers on construction sites and in the interior.

Compared with mineral spirits it evaporates more slowly and leaves more residue; compared with diesel it is lighter and cleaner-burning; compared with naphtha it is far less volatile and safer to store and use. Choose it where a slow, oily, economical solvent is wanted rather than a fast, residue-free one.

Handling: kerosene is a flammable liquid (UN 1223, Class 3); store drums closed in a shaded, ventilated, bunded area away from ignition sources, earth containers during transfer, and keep rags in closed metal bins. It irritates skin with repeated contact and is harmful if swallowed, with a serious aspiration risk, so never siphon it by mouth or store it in drinking-water bottles; wear nitrile gloves and goggles. Every delivery carries a certificate of analysis giving flash point, distillation range and density, and a GHS safety data sheet.
