Soda Ash Light (Industrial Grade)

Soda ash light is anhydrous sodium carbonate (Na2CO3, CAS 497-19-8) in its low-bulk-density form: 0.5–0.6 kg/L, against 1.0–1.2 kg/L for the dense grade. Both grades are the same chemical at 99.2% minimum assay. The light grade comes straight from the calcination step, with a fine particle size that dissolves in seconds and spreads evenly through a dry blend. Global Chemicals LLC stocks it in Ghala, Muscat, for detergent, water-treatment, textile and chemical-processing customers across Oman.

Where the light grade is the right choice. Powder detergent and soap plants use it as the alkaline builder because it blends uniformly with surfactants and fillers. Water-treatment formulators use it as the sodium carbonate source in softening and pH-correction products. Textile dyeing uses it to fix reactive dyes, and glass batches use it as the flux that lowers the melting point of silica. For drilling fluids, or anywhere dust and settling matter more than mixing speed, the dense grade is the better pick.

How it behaves. A 1% solution has a pH of 11.5–12.0, so it raises alkalinity without the handling hazards of caustic soda. It precipitates calcium hardness as calcium carbonate (magnesium needs lime at pH above 10.5), which is why it appears in softening products and in cement-contamination treatment. Sodium carbonate is hygroscopic: keep bags sealed, dry and off the floor, because absorbed moisture cakes the powder and lowers the assay.

What to specify when you order. Grade (light or dense), minimum Na2CO3 assay, bulk density, and pack: 25 kg bags, 50 kg bags or bulk bags on pallets. A certificate of analysis accompanies each lot and the SDS is available on request. Orders from Muscat stock deliver the same day in the capital area and next day to Sohar; Salalah, Duqm and Nizwa are two to three days by road.
