Solvent Naphtha

Solvent naphtha for the oilfield (petroleum naphtha, CAS 64742-89-8) is a refined distillate with a flash point of 38–45 °C, 15–20% aromatics and fast evaporation, supplied by Global Chemicals LLC in light, medium and heavy cuts, in 20 L and 200 L drums, 1,000 L IBCs and bulk, from stock in Muscat with deliveries to the interior fields. What it does in the field. Naphtha dissolves mineral oil, grease, paraffin wax and light asphaltic residue, and it evaporates without residue, which makes it the cleaning solvent for wellhead and valve maintenance, rig wash, drilling and completion equipment, pumps, pigs, tools and instruments before inspection or re-assembly. Hot naphtha and naphtha-xylene blends dissolve paraffin wax from tubing, flowlines and tank bottoms where hot oiling is not available, and naphtha is the carrier solvent in paraffin inhibitors, demulsifier and corrosion-inhibitor formulations, diluting the active chemical so it disperses at the injection point. The aromatic content sets solvency: the heavier, more aromatic cut handles wax and asphaltenes, the light cut cleans parts and flashes off fastest.

Handling: naphtha is a flammable liquid (UN 1268, Class 3) with vapour heavier than air that travels to ignition sources and collects in pits, cellars and tanks. Store drums closed and bunded in a shaded, ventilated area away from hot work; earth and bond during transfer; use explosion-proof pumps and non-sparking tools; wear nitrile gloves and goggles; and treat solvent-soaked rags and spent naphtha as flammable waste. Keep exposure within the workplace limit and never use it in a confined space without monitoring and ventilation.
