Nitric Acid 68% (Food Grade)

Nitric acid 68% (HNO3, CAS 7697-37-2) is the azeotropic concentration of nitric acid, a clear, colourless, strongly oxidising mineral acid. Global Chemicals LLC stocks it in Ghala, Muscat, in a food-contact grade (67–69% HNO3, low chloride) and a technical grade, and exports it to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait in two to seven days. The low chloride specification matters in food plants: chloride is what pits stainless steel, so a low-chloride acid cleans without starting corrosion.

In Oman's dairies, breweries and beverage plants, food-grade nitric acid is the acid step of the CIP (clean-in-place) programme. After the caustic wash removes fat and protein, a 0.5–1.5% nitric solution at 50–70 °C dissolves milk stone, beer stone and hard-water scale from tanks, plate heat exchangers, bottling lines and process pipework, and re-passivates the stainless-steel surface so it resists corrosion until the next cycle. The same 68% acid serves technical duties across the Sultanate: pickling and passivating stainless and carbon steel ahead of galvanising, laboratory digestion and analysis, and nitration feedstock.

Every batch ships with a certificate of analysis and a GHS safety data sheet in English, with Arabic on request. Packs are 35 kg (30 L) HDPE carboys, 60 kg and 200 L drums and 1,000 L IBC totes, with bulk arrangements for plant-scale users. Store the acid vented, in polyethylene or stainless containment, away from organics, metals powders and reducing agents, and handle it with full acid PPE: it oxidises skin and releases nitrogen oxides if it meets organic material. Never mix it with caustic or hypochlorite in the same line without a water rinse between steps.
