Methanol (Industrial Grade)

Methanol (methyl alcohol, CH3OH, CAS 67-56-1) in industrial grade is a clear, colourless, highly flammable liquid supplied by Global Chemicals LLC at 99.85% minimum purity with water below 0.1%, boiling point 65 °C, flash point 11 °C and specific gravity 0.792, in 200 L drums, 1,000 L IBCs, ISO tanks and bulk from stock in Muscat and Rusayl Industrial Area. It is one of the highest-volume chemicals consumed in Oman, and the oilfield grade for continuous injection is listed separately under oilfield chemicals.

In oil and gas, methanol is the hydrate inhibitor injected at wellheads and along gas-gathering lines where a regenerable glycol system is impractical: it lowers the hydrate formation temperature of the gas-water mix, is not recovered, and so is dosed continuously by water rate and the required depression. In industry it is the feedstock for formaldehyde and the resins made from it, the methylating agent in MTBE and biodiesel (FAME) production, a solvent for coatings, inks and extraction, the base of windshield-washer and some antifreeze fluids, a denaturant for ethanol, a fuel and fuel additive, and a laboratory solvent in its finer grades.

Handling: methanol is toxic as well as flammable. Swallowing a small quantity, and prolonged skin contact or vapour inhalation, can cause blindness and death, and its flame is nearly invisible in daylight. Store it in closed carbon-steel or stainless tanks and drums in a ventilated, bunded, shaded area away from ignition sources and oxidisers; earth and bond during transfer; use explosion-proof pumps; wear butyl or nitrile gloves, goggles and, in poorly ventilated areas, organic-vapour respiratory protection. Never store it in a container that could be mistaken for drinking water. It is transported as UN 1230, Class 3 with a toxic subsidiary hazard; our drivers and tankers carry the matching documentation.

Every delivery ships with a certificate of analysis giving purity, water content, acidity and colour, a technical data sheet and a GHS safety data sheet in English, with Arabic on request. Global Chemicals LLC is JSRS-registered and ISO 9001:2015 certified.
