    Frequently Asked Questions — Sulfuric Acid (Laboratory Grade)

    Laboratory sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) is supplied in several purity grades to match application requirements. ACS (American Chemical Society) reagent grade is 95–98% H₂SO₄ with strict limits on heavy metals, chloride, nitrate, and residue — required for analytical chemistry titrations, pH standards, and trace analysis. AR (Analytical Reagent) grade from BDH, Sigma-Aldrich, or Merck meets equivalent purity for laboratory analysis. Technical grade is 93–98% but with higher impurity levels, suitable for industrial use but not laboratory analytical work. For HPLC mobile phase preparation, ultra-pure (HPLC grade) sulphuric acid with sub-ppb metal contaminant levels is required. In Oman's university and research laboratory sector (SQU, Sultan Qaboos University; UTAS; CAS), analytical grade is standard.
