EDTA Disodium Salt (Laboratory Grade)
Product Overview
High-purity EDTA for chelation, buffer preparation, and molecular biology.
Detailed Description
EDTA disodium salt dihydrate (Na2EDTA·2H2O, C10H14N2Na2O8·2H2O, CAS 6381-92-6, formula weight 372.24) is the laboratory chelating agent that binds calcium, magnesium, iron and other metal ions into stable complexes. Global Chemicals LLC supplies it at 99% minimum purity, DNase- and RNase-free, as a white crystalline powder in 100 g, 500 g, 1 kg and 5 kg containers, from stock in Muscat, with a certificate of analysis and safety data sheet for every lot.
Analytical use. Disodium EDTA is the titrant of complexometric titration: a 0.01 M solution titrated against Eriochrome Black T at pH 10 measures total hardness, and 1 mL of 0.01 M EDTA corresponds to 1 mg of calcium carbonate. Oman's water-quality laboratories use it for drinking water, irrigation water, boiler feedwater and cooling-tower water; industrial QC labs use it for calcium in cement and gypsum and for metal determinations, and it serves as a standard for atomic-absorption calibration checks. Environmental labs use it to mobilise heavy metals for analysis.
Molecular biology use. EDTA inhibits metal-dependent nucleases, so it protects DNA and RNA in extraction, storage and electrophoresis. The standard 0.5 M stock is made by dissolving 186.1 g of the dihydrate per litre while raising the pH to 8.0 with sodium hydroxide; the salt does not dissolve fully until the pH reaches about 8. From that stock come TE buffer (10 mM Tris, 1 mM EDTA), TAE and TBE running buffers, enzyme storage buffers and protein-purification buffers. It is also the anticoagulant in blood-collection tubes and a stabiliser in biological media.
A 1% solution has a pH of 4–6; the powder is stable indefinitely when kept dry and closed. It is harmful if inhaled as dust and may affect the respiratory tract on repeated exposure (EU CLP H332, H373), so weigh it with dust control, gloves and safety glasses. Laboratories ordering regularly can hold a standing order so the same lot stays in use across a validation period.
Delivery is same day within Muscat, next day to Sohar, Nizwa, Salalah and Duqm, and by road across the GCC with a certificate of origin. Request a quote with the pack size and quantity, or see the laboratory chemicals supplier guide for the full reagent list, grades and documentation.
